Flash or no Flash that is here the question

Long time ago I worked for Germany’s largest newspaper in Berlin http://www.bild.de and did not do anything else but create multimedia content in Flash for the company’s web site. It was a job that brought a lot of responsibilities with it and also a lot of stress. We had more than 55 million impressions a month on our web site and it was my responsibility to come up with advertising formats for brands like VW, Audi, BMW, etc. for the web site.

With that being said that was a lot of money involved and at the time I thought that programming in Flash was it. Surely, Flash is an incredible tool with endless design possibilities but does it make sense for everybody? My opinion has changed over the years. For web sites whose sole purpose is representation of a well known company, Flash is the best way to go. It looks super cool, you get a lot of animation and visually stunning effects. However, companies that are just starting out or are trying to get more business over the Internet a hybrid is the better way to go. A hybrid would include conventional HTML, PHP code and some Flash elements.

Don’t get me wrong I still love Flash!
