SEO or fighting for number 1 ranking in Google
February 05, 2010 - from Markus
Once upon a time... Well, forget about it. Let me give you an example. Client calls in and asks for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), yews and he also needs a web site and hosting. We tell him, "off course, no problem..." The client tells us what he is doing professionally and what he wants to get across on his web site. And off course at the end he also tell us "My site needs to be number one on Google". Short silence from our end and then the counter question from us "under what keyword do you want to be number one on Google?" Keyword?? Well, for keyword "whatever". We tell him "OK, but we cannot guarantee that..."
He is saying "Why, I have seen advertisement from companies on the Internet that are guaranteeing it, I know it is expensive but they guarantee first place..." I normally counter "And do they guarantee 1st place on Google with that specific keyword? No, they do not. They cannot!" What I am trying to explain is that it is extremely if not impossible to guarantee top ranking on Google with a generic keyword. Just imagine trying to put us, pdq-designs on the first place on Google with the generic keyword "web design"! Not possible!!! If that was the case we would be working around the clock and constantly searching for new qualified employees. Being in the top 10 on Google with generic keywords like clothes, cheap tickets, sportswear etc is the same like being able to print your own money.
Companies that promise to put you among the top ten on Google with a generic keyword are not working in your favor and totally construe the complexity of doing successful SEO. To give you an example. Let's just say you are selling Sportswear and your master keyword is "sportswear" . The only way to get the task accomplished is to take your masterkeyword "sportswear" and add e.g the country, the state and city so "sportswear Georgia Atlanta" or by adding the company name "Harry's Sportswear". Successful and effective SEO means a big time investment on both sides the client and the designer just to come up with new keywords. It also means that you have to take a look at the competition and analyze what they are doing it also means watching consistently the traffic the search engines are bringing to your web site and according to all this adjust the SEO. Bottom line is, nobody can guarantee to place you among the top ten on Google. Do your research on the Design companies that you want to work with and most of all try to find a trustworthy company. Did I tell you that we do offer SEO?
Have fun with Google.
